What is a desired motorcycle jacket?

FAP-MBJ-026

Jackets — generally made from leather, ballistic nylon, cordura, Kevlar or other synthetics. Most jackets include special padding on elbows, spine and shoulders. Airbag system technology is now available fitted to jackets and vests for accident protection and impact protection for both riders and pillions. Competition-approved hard armor is superior to soft padding. Competition-approved back and chest protectors can be worn underneath jackets. Inflatable airbag jackets can offer an additional airbag for neck support. If you have not already purchased a motorcycle jacket, you should strongly consider it. You don't need an entire wardrobe of them, but choosing a high quality, durable motorcycle jacket is important for safety when you are riding your motorcycle. Here are the top 5 reasons why you should purchase a motorcycle jacket:

1. Protection: Motorcycle jackets offer the rider protection from both the elements and from injury in the event of a crash. Most come standard with padding in the highest impact areas, such as the shoulder and the elbows. In the event of a potential crash, this padding and protection will help to prevent burns and abrasions that are commonly experienced by riders who are not wearing this protective clothing. Also, many motorcycle jackets some standard with reflective gear that can offer additional safety for riders at night. While these jackets don't often double as daywear fashion, they are great for ensuring the safety of the riders.

2. Comfort: Motorcycle jackets are not only great for safety reasons, they are also great for giving the rider comfort whether they are just riding around town, or on a long journey. Motorcycle jackets can help protect against wind, sun and heat and even bugs. You would be surprised at how much these environmental elements will affect a rider.

3. Style: Motorcycle jackets can also offer just plain style to riders who wear them. Offered in a variety of materials, styles and colors, riders can truly customize their appearance when riding.

4. Fashion off the bike: Motorcycle jackets have become a mainstream fashion item for many people around the world. They are actually considered to be quite fashionable and trendy, attracting even non-riders to wear them. You will not only be able to get great use from your jacket while on the road, but you can wear it daily as a piece of your wardrobe. The ability to wear the motorcycle jacket any time will also help to defer the costs of your purchase. Consider the item as an investment piece within your wardrobe.

5. Feeling: Motorcycle jackets are just a part of the complete look. Jackets have long been considered a traditional staple for riders, and by wearing one, you will instantly feel like an experienced rider. In fact, the type of jacket that you choose can even give you a certain strut in your walk.

The choices of motorcycle jackets available today are varied and plentiful. Styles are as unique as their designers, and modern synthetic materials give the biker an added option over the standard leather jacket, a tried and true material for protection against the elements and the road.

By today’s standards, most of the major motorcycle apparel manufacturers have come to agree on a common set of characteristics that tend to the specific needs of bikers as learned over the years.

Many of these needs vary with personal taste, and will vary with the type of riding being done, and the individual priorities of the discerning consumer.

What is Cordura?

CORDURA was the registered name of a certified (nylon) fabric from DuPont. Today, it is the registered name of a high-performance Nylon-6,6 product. It is used in a wide range of products from luggage and backpacks to boots, military apparel (such as tactical blade sheaths, ammunition pouches, etc.), and performance apparel.

It is designed to be long-lasting and resistant to abrasions, tears and scuffs.

As a brand name, CORDURA reaches back to 1929 as a development of Rayon. The product was further developed during World War II and used by the military in tires. From 1966 when new formulations of nylon proved superior, the CORDURA brand was transferred to the nylon product instead.

CORDURA has continued to be developed as a brand with new products applied to an increasing range of items such as:

  • luggage
  • motorcycle clothing
  • anywhere that abrasion resistance is important
  • sporting and recreational equipment

Cordura is a dense 1000/280 denier weave, but lightweight (about 11 oz. per yard) and breathable. It has excellent resistance to scuffing and pilling under demanding conditions. Its new super-softness makes it comfortable as well as stylish and functional. CORDURA fabric is what the most respected brands, retailers and militaries around the world use when they need to make a product that’s durable, versatile and reliable. Constructed using high tenacity fiber technologies, ounce for ounce, CORDURA fabrics are more durable than comparable unbranded fabrics. Fact is, no matter the application, our fabrics are “best-in-class.” But more importantly, they have to pass our own stringent test criteria before they can earn the CORDURA brand name. They’re available in a wide range of weights – from ultra lightweight to heavy weight. And CORDURA fabrics come in many different constructions and textures. All in all, they’re the fabrics that make strong, long-lasting products even tougher in several categories - from outdoor gear and work wear to luggage and upholstery

In the CORDURA brand world, durable fabrics are everything. Funny thing is, they play a significant role in your world, too. You just might not realize it yet. Explore each category in our Durable Products section and see for yourself how CORDURA fabrics strengthen hundreds upon hundreds of products. The general rule of thumb being, if it’s built to take some serious punishment and last a long time, it’s more than likely made with CORDURA. Cordura has properties like water repellant, tear resistance and durability. Along this, we find a huge color selection and prints in Cordura that are impossible to be found in leather.

For more than 30 years, the CORDURA brand has been recognized worldwide as the fabric of choice when it comes to durability. We’re quite proud of that fact. We’re also proud of the many terrific business relationships we’ve formed over the years and look forward to continuing them and forging new relationships as we lead the way in durable fabric innovations For more information please visit http:/www.faport.com.
